Real Wedding :: Quynh + Charlie

This invitation project was particularly fun for me because it was for friends. Quynh and I went to junior high together and reconnected just before our high school 10 year reunion a few years ago. I convinced her to go, because I wanted to. Good thing for her, because she reacquainted that evening with an old friend, and she and Charlie were married this past summer.

The real reason I wanted to talk about this wedding is because of the dress the bride wore. It was stunning! The color, the fabric, the drape, the sexy back strap with the seed beading—she couldn’t have found a more perfect dress unless she designed it herself. Oh, right. She did design it herself. Because not only is Quynh beautiful, but she is also a talented designer for an in-house label at Nordstrom.

The dress Quynh Phan designed for her own wedding was inspired by one designed by Marchesa and worn by Mischa Barton to the 2006 BAFTA awards. Quynh made hers with two layers—the under layer of silk charmeuse and the top is 8 yards of gorgeous silk chiffon. Her friend and colleague, Katharine Fuller, helped her make this dream dress a reality. So I’m sorry, but you can’t buy this dress anywhere, it’s one of a kind. Just like Quynh!
